Litespeed-BMW Roaring Ahead in 2012

2012 is off to a successful and fast start for the Litespeed-BMW Cycling team, an elite amateur road team based out of Atlanta. Acquiring new sponsors, riders, and preparing for the first annual Litespeed BMW Criterium are just some of the happenings for the team.

You will see the guys racing and riding on a mixture of Litespeed's high-end bicycles in the peloton this year-both the Archon C1R and L1R. The C1R is Litespeed's award-winning aero road bike, the flagship for the aero C-series. Racers love how the bike slices through the wind with minimal effort-just like wind tunnel testing shows. The L1R is new for 2012 and completed the rigorous UCI certification process. This flagship for the lightweight L-series incorporates all of the cycling industry's latest technology such as 60T carbon fiber, BB 386, 1.125" x 1.5" tapered steerer fork and Zero-Stack headset.

With wins in Georgia, Tennessee, Alabama in multiple events such as road races, criteriums, time trials, and more, the 2012 Litespeed-BMW Cycling team has shown its skill and versatility. With a successful spring already on the books, expect their winning ways to continue throughout the summer and into the fall. Not only are the guys busy racing, they are also busy raising money for two charities-Tour de Pink and Spin for Kids benefitting Camp Twin Lakes. In fact, over the last three years, the team has raised over $25,000 for Camp Twin Lakes.

New rider Neil Kopitsky joins the squad in 2012. Bringing all-around speed to the team, Neil is the 2011 Georgia Masters Criterium Champion. Also of note, second year rider Artur Sagat has been selected to race for the Fuji Test Team in Belgium for the first half of the 2012 season.

Related to sponsorship, BMW is back for a third year, as is main sponsor Georgia Natural Gas in 2012. Guinness continues its high level of support, thanks to team's success during over 10 years in existence. New sponsors for 2012 include Rudy Project, 3VERB, and A&D Environmental.

A new venture for the team, a criterium race in East Atlanta Village, will be the first race the team has organized for the sport. The Litespeed-BMW Twilight Criterium is scheduled for August 18. All categories are invited to race with the day culminating with the premier race, the nighttime Pro, 1, 2 race
